The Dust Settles, For Now
After a weekend full of carnage, the FCS landscape finally takes a deep breath. Plenty of teams handled business, plenty lost their grip, and for now, this is where the titans lay their heads on the pillow.
North Dakota State remains the immovable force at No. 1, while Montana and Montana State continue to stalk right behind. The top tier feels settled, for now, but beneath that surface? There’s still plenty of movement, and momentum.
North Dakota stays put at No. 9, holding firm in a week where so many others slipped. Mercer climbs back into familiar territory at No. 7, closer to where the Bears were when we kicked things off this season. What a turnaround, welcome back to the party.
Meanwhile, Youngstown State put the rest of the country on notice with a statement win over Southern Illinois. Quarterback Beau Brungard looked every bit the part, he is a PLAYER. The Penguins now sit at a stout No. 13 in the country.
And what else is there to do except place South Dakota State at No. 16, one spot behind the South Dakota Coyotes, the team that just beat them. The Coyotes own the bragging rights (for now).
As the playoff picture tightens and contenders dig in, the next few weeks promise to define who’s built for December football, and who’s not.
