The OVC-Big South went 2-7 this week, with four teams getting blown out. Tennessee
Tech continues to dominate early in the season.

Western Illinois loses to Northwestern 42-7
Another rough showing for the Leathernecks against their second FBS team in a row. Their lone touchdown came from backup QB Carson Carswell to WR Christian Anaya in garbage time. Carswell went six for eight with 52 yards after starting QB Chris Irvin was held to 27 yards and an interception, going five for 18. Western Illinois had 181 total yards and allowed 526.

Eastern Illinois loses to Indiana State 38-14
The Panthers couldn’t get it going against the Trees this week. Both of the team’s touchdowns came from RB Charles Kellom in the second half, who finished the day with 86 yards on 23 carries. QB Cole Lacrue went seven for 12 with 38 yards and an interception. After the pick, Connor Wolf took the helm at QB, going nine for 13 with 112 yards. EIU had 239 total yards and allowed 413.

Tennessee Tech beats Chattanooga 45-17
Pure dominance right from the start from the Golden Eagles. Tennessee Tech racked up 513 offensive yards, 240 of which came through the air from QB Kekoa Visperas, who also had two touchdowns. Backup Jace Wilson also threw a 52-yard touchdown to WR Luke Shields in the fourth quarter for both players’ only touches.
Quintell Quinn, Aidan Littles, and Q’Daryius Jennings all shared work in the backfield, with all three of them scoring a touchdown. On defense, DB Devin Hunter reeled in an interception and DL Theron Gaines led with seven total tackles and a sack, earning him OVC-Big South defensive co-player of the week. They held the Mocs to 274 yards.

Tennessee State loses to North Dakota State 59-3
The Tigers were the victims of the no. 1 team in the FCS this week. A 45-yard field goal from Freddy Perez in the fourth quarter prevented a total shutout. Tennessee State only put up 131 yards while allowing 435. DB Byron Davis snagged an interception, but the offense had two turnovers of their own.

Gardner-Webb loses to Georgia Tech 59-12
FBS teams continue to dominate the Big South-OVC as Georgia Tech put up 680 yards against the Runnin’ Bulldogs. After scoring early with a pass from QB Nate Hampton to Anthony Lowe, Gardner-Webb struggled to see any success until QB Cole Pennington threw a second TD to WR Caleb Borders.

Lindenwood loses to App State 20-13
Four turnovers from the Mountaineers kept Lindenwood in the game, but 8 sacks kept the Lions from getting it done. LB Sanjay Strickland led the defense with 13 tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble, earning him OVC-Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors. QB Nate Glantz went 20 for 36 with 217 yards, two interceptions, and a TD both in the air and on the ground. He was also sacked 8 times, giving
Lindenwood a grand total of -1 rushing yards. WR Rico Bond reeled in 7 catches with 102 yards and a TD, naming him OVC-Big South Freshman of the Week. Lindenwood went 3-17 on third down, posting 216 total yards while allowing 503.

Southeast Missouri beats North Alabama 30-21
OVC-Big South Offensive Player of the Week Jax Leatherwood led the offense this week with 225 passing yards and three total touchdowns. North Alabama held a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Redhawks answered with 30 points of their own. WR Cam Pedro earned 82 yards and a TD from 4 catches, and RB Payton Brown led the backfield with 81 yards in 16 carries. DB Slade Dollar had an interception for SEMO. The Lions had 440 yards to SEMO’s 384, but it wasn’t enough.

Charleston Southern loses to Coastal Carolina 13-0
The Buccaneers snagged three interceptions against Coastal Carolina, but the offense couldn’t get enough going to make them count. Charleston Southern put up 153 yards of offense to the Chanticleers’ 384. CSU Punter Gilbert Brown set an OVC-Big South record with an 82-yard punt, naming him the association’s Special Teams Player of the Week. He has the longest punt in the NCAA so far this season.

UT Martin loses to UTEP 42-17
The Skyhawks suffered another FBS blowout this week. QB Jase Bauer went 23 for 33 with 273 yards and a TD. RB John Gentry was the workhorse in the UT Martin backfield with 12 carries, but only 32 yards. WR Bryce Bailey scored the other touchdown for the Skyhawks with an 11-yard run. UT Martin put up 371 yards of offense but allowed 472.
