As their inaugural season continues, the UTRGV Football program has established itself as a surprise, already reaching six victories in its inaugural season. Only Kennesaw State has more wins in its first season of
FCS football. For the Vaqueros, it is an important part of the schedule where teams begin to establish themselves in playoff positions. With their record being 6-2 and 2-2 in the Southland Conference, UTRGV is looking to add its first road conference win to its resume.
This week, the Vaqueros are preparing for another potential upset as they visit nationally ranked Stephen F. Austin. The two losses on the road for the Vaqueros have come in conference games against teams that lead the conference, including Lamar and Southeastern Louisiana. A win for UTRGV put them in conversation for playoff consideration if they were to win out.
“We have been through this road twice, and it is more about us.” Head coach Travis Bush said in a weekly press conference. “They do an excellent job on both sides of the field, and we need to be prepared from the get-go if we are to get a result.”
Both teams enter the week with six wins under their belt with two losses. SFA is undefeated at home and in Southland Conference play.
